Vintage Inspired Musical ~ Double D Challenges

It's the first Wednesday of the month so that means that Double D Challenges has a new challenge starting.  The theme for this challenge is "Music".  You could use sheet music, musical instruments, anything to do with music.  You can even let a song inspire you, just tell us what song it is.

I often lean on the side of "vintage" and this challenge certainly opened itself up to this type of card.  You'll see what I mean when you see the inspiration tile that Diane put together for you.

I used some beautiful Spring Meadow die cuts from K & Co., along with a printed background panel and some old sheet music from my stash.

Since the card base is on the darker side, I added a piece of white writing paper to the inside of the card, attached with a strip of washi tape, allowing plenty of space for a personal message.

I was inspired by all the sheet music and the pretty flower in the lower right corner.

How are you inspired:

I'd love to see your take on this challenge over at Double D Challenges.
Hope to see you there!

New Creation ~ Mixed Media Monday

Hello friends ~  It's time once again for Mixed Media Monday.

Today's entry into my Create Happiness Art Journal is fairly CAS.  I cut this large Eyelet Lace Frame from Spellbinders Garden Shutters collection out of a piece of parchment cardstock and stamped some scripty background in very light Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Ink.  I also stamped some vintage postal imagery using clear stamps from Spellbinders Flea Market Finds recent release.

The edges of the doily as well as the background of the page in my art journal got a healthy dose of distressing using Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stains.  The berries are clear acetate stickers that I found on Amazon and the oversized butterfly is from a K and Co. collection of die cuts called "Meadow".

I typed the verse from 2 Corinthians 5:17 on my computer and printed it on my home printer.  I cut the sentiment into blocks, in keeping with the other entries in this journal, and outlined them with a thin black marker.

I enjoyed the CAS process of creating this entry, and I'm so thankful for the truth found in these words.

I'll be adding this page to the Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge

Hello Birdie ~ Double D Challenges

Hello peeps.  There's a new challenge starting up over at Double D Challenges and the theme is "Birds".

I love feeding and watching the birds in our yard.  They play a big part of helping me get through the long, cold Maine winters.  I could sit in front of the window and watch them for hours.

Todays card is a tri-fold card, featuring this pretty bird from a pack of dies called "Meadow" from K and Company.

You may recall that I used some of the dies in a previous post (found HERE).  The artist is Susan Wingett, and I just love her work!

As I mentioned, this is a tri-fold card.  Here's the base that I started with.  It measures 5 1/2" x 9".  Both the left and right panels are scored at 2 1/4".

I built the left flap by out adding another panel of cardstock, covering each panel with beautiful papers from Stampin' Up!.  The sentiment is cut using Altenew's Versatile Greetings.

I cut the right side of the flap down to a 1" band that I covered with the designer paper and added this sweet little bird.

I also covered the inside of the left flap with more of the pretty papers.  The center has plenty of room for writing a message.

This was a fun card to make.  A little different from the norm.

Here's the inspiration photo to help you get started.

And here's the prize that's up for grabs when you play along:

Make Your Own Sunshine ~ Mixed Media Monday

Good morning friends and welcome back to another Mixed Media Monday.  Have you been keeping tucked in at home because of all the crazy weather patterns that we've all been experiencing here in the US?  I know for me, winters can be long and cold, so today's project is meant to bring some sunshine into your soul.

I found these wonderful K & Company "Meadow" die cuts from artist Susan Winget that jumped off the page over at A Cherry On Top.  The colors are so warm and vibrant and the images of flowers, butterflies, birds and ladybugs evoked thoughts of SPRING to me.

These die cuts were the inspiration for this Mixed Media Monday entry in my Create Happiness Art Journal.

I started by covering a double page spread using older papers that I found in my stash from My Minds Eye "Skies The Limit" collection.  The rose and yellow paper matched the colors in the die cuts perfectly.  You would almost think they were part of the same collection, except that I've probably had this paper pack for several years.

I stamped some text and leaves in the background using stamps from Leaves & Film stamps set from Stamperia.  Using Modern Alphabet dies from Scrapbook.com, I cut the words out of brown cardstock.  The word "Sunshine" is cut from this warm, creamy yellow Glitter Paper from DCWV.

I played around with the layout of the die cuts until I was happy with it, then layered the word "Sunshine" across the bottom of the two pages.

I added white gel pen details to some of the flower petals and called it complete.

This project is so cheerful and springy.  It makes my heart happy!  I hope it makes your heart smile too, with the hope of spring and new beginnings.

Here's a list of products I used:
