Playing with Color Hues Color Challenge

Hello crafty peeps ~ I'm popping in with a quick post with a card I made for the Color Hues Color Challenge, using the colors
PURPLE and ORANGE.

I recently purchased this Wild Blooms stencil from Papertrey Ink, after seeing my dear friend Marcia use it to make so many pretty cards.

I stuck with orange colors for the flower petals and purple for the center of the flowers.  The leaves are done in two shades of grey.

I turned this into a flat shaker card by recycling a piece of packaging from a stamp set.  I added iridescent and silver sequins to the inside pocket and a simple label sentiment. The ornate frame is from Pinkfresh Studio.

I'll be adding this card to the following challenges:

Retro Halloween Box

Hello crafty friends ~

I've been sitting on these Tim Holtz costume boxes for way too long. These came out a few years ago and I just loved the vintage / retro graphics.  He had a line of Christmas boxes as well, which I've used in the past, and I still have some.  What can I say.... I just love everything vintage!

Anywho... This image from Crafty Secrets (also ages old) was sitting in my stash and I thought, how perfectly they go together.  The pumpkins are from Pretty Little Studio.  I just adore their line of vintage die cuts.

If you peek into the box, you'll see I used some wild polka dotted paper to line the box with, and I added some cheese cloth behind the trio of trick-or-treaters.  This adds a layer of texture and softness.

I remember having so much fun coming up with our own ideas for creating costumes for Halloween.  Very rarely did our costumes come in a box.  They came from our imagination.  Those were the days.

I think I'll add this project to the following challenges:

Using Old Stencils in a Primitive Way

Good morning friends~  A few years ago, a friend of mine gave me all of her craft supplies (as if I didn't already have enough of my own).  It was so much fun going through the supplies as a lot of it was much older stuff.

One item that piqued my interest was a set of four bird stencils that came with velour panels for painting on.  I always thought it would be fun to try the stencils on cardstock, but I tucked the set of stencils away and well, you know how that goes.  They got forgotten.

I found them just the other day and decided to give one of the birds a try.  I was pleasantly surprised by the results.

Except that I smudged on some of the black from the bird onto one of the flowers.  Can you see it??  As a way to hide it, I added on colored pencil details, in hopes of making it less visible.  I also randomly stamped some script in a few of the negative spaces.

Once that was done, I cut the panel using a stitched rectangle and did some ink blending while the panel was still in the die.  While the ink smudge is still noticeable, it looks more at home with a primitive background.

There are three more birds in this set that are just waiting to be used again.  I looked for a date on the papers but couldn't find one.  I'm guessing this is from the 80's.  I'm so glad that our craft is always being reinvented and we can use the old stuff right along with the new.

I'll be adding this card to the following challenges:

Just For Fun ~ "O" is for Owl

Hello friends~
I was rummaging through my project photo's on my computer and I came across this altered child's block I made quite a while ago and never shared.  Just throwing it out there, just for fun, since it's kind of fitting for this season.

I've used these old child's blocks for many an altered project in the past.

The owl and pumpkin image is from Pretty Little Studio.  I backed him up with a crepe paper medallion.

A bit of moss and a tissue paper ruffle along the bottom gives this little guy a soft place to land.

I think it's pretty cute and retro.

I'll be adding this project to the following challenges:
