Art Journal Using Limited Supplies ~ Mixed Media Monday

Hello friends,  I'm writing this post from sunny California!  I'm staying at my son and daughter-in-loves house until June.  I flew out the end of April, to come and babysit my sweet little "P" until her mama gets out of school in June.

I shipped a large flat rate box of craft tools and very few supplies so that I could get my craft on while I'm here, but I realized right away that I did not have much to create with.  I only had one stamp set that was for a design team project but I can't share that card with you until later.

So, I hopped on Amazon and found this super cute, all in one kit in a vintage style, which you know I love.

The kit came complete with an art journal, pretty botanical printed papers, die cut ephemera and vellum stickers.  Now, I've never used vellum stickers before and I've just discovered that I love them!  They have a translucent look to them, that gives them a little halo look around the image.

I also purchased a clear botanical stamp set that will get lots of use in my art journaling when I return home.

I had no distress oxide inks and no blending tools, no stencils or other mediums so the page is pretty basic.  But it still gave me plenty of joy creating it and I'm happy with the way it turned out.
If you haven't seen me commenting on your blog for a bit, now you know why.  My computer time is very limited, as I am here for sweet "P" and the computer can wait.  I'll try to play catch up, as well as I can, when I can.  Until then, I'll try to share the few things I'm making.  I had a sweet visit and a surprise from a friend, which I'll share in a later post.

I'll be adding today's project into the following challenges:

New Creation ~ Mixed Media Monday

Hello friends ~  It's time once again for Mixed Media Monday.

Today's entry into my Create Happiness Art Journal is fairly CAS.  I cut this large Eyelet Lace Frame from Spellbinders Garden Shutters collection out of a piece of parchment cardstock and stamped some scripty background in very light Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Ink.  I also stamped some vintage postal imagery using clear stamps from Spellbinders Flea Market Finds recent release.

The edges of the doily as well as the background of the page in my art journal got a healthy dose of distressing using Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stains.  The berries are clear acetate stickers that I found on Amazon and the oversized butterfly is from a K and Co. collection of die cuts called "Meadow".

I typed the verse from 2 Corinthians 5:17 on my computer and printed it on my home printer.  I cut the sentiment into blocks, in keeping with the other entries in this journal, and outlined them with a thin black marker.

I enjoyed the CAS process of creating this entry, and I'm so thankful for the truth found in these words.

I'll be adding this page to the Creative Artiste Mixed Media Challenge

Flea Market Finds ~ Spellbinders

Hello dear paper crafting friends!  I'm delighted to be posting on my blog today, projects I made using Spellbinders newest Flew market Finds release from Cathe Holden.
Fair warning, this is a picture heavy post, so grab a cuppa something yummy, sit back and get ready to be transported back in time.

When I received the package with all the goodies in the mail from Spellbinders, it was literally like walking through a well curated flea market, just full of beautiful vintage ephemera.

Let's start with the Florals 2 Palette Paper Pad.   It’s a 6x9 inch paper pad, full of floral designs with a backdrop of deep rich colors.

I created two postcards using papers from the Florals 2 Palette and stamped images from the Reading Matter Clear Stamp Set.

Here you'll find some sweet little book marks or they could also be used to add to cards, art journals or other projects as you'll see below.  I used one of the long scalloped dies from Mini Envelopes 1 Etched Dies to cut the book marks.  I added pieces of ephemera from Coat Check Miscellany and a tiny tag from the Mini Envelopes 1 die set.

I randomly stamped images from both Reading Material Clear Stamps and Sign Here Clear Stamps onto the back sides of the book marks.  The tab reinforcers from the die set and some string finished these off.

This is a sampling of some of the dies included in Mini Envelopes 2 Etched Die Set.  I adore the pointed scalloped rectangle! This design is reminiscent of that bygone era.

This is a picture of an original vintage calling card.  Do you see the resemblance in the die cut shape?

So many possibilities here for creating your own vintage pieces.  Tiny envelopes to fill with tiny treasures.  You can create them with or without the windows, as the dies are all separate.

Moving on to the greeting cards I made, using more of the Florals 2 Palette Paper Pad and other ephemera bits from Coat Check Miscellany.

I used the book mark I made previously, on this card here.  I just love the blue tones on this pretty floral paper.

I had so much fun creating with this amazing release!  I do hope you'll take a minute to visit Spellbinders to see the entire new release as well as all the other New Arrivals for the month of March.

Mixed Media Monday ~ Be Joyful Always

Welcome back to my third installment of Mixed Media Monday.  Today's art journal page, is actually a CASE from the very talented Vicky Papaionnou, using items from her newly released collection Create Happiness.

Of course, I added my own spin to her amazing layout using these delightful, stacked teacups from the Pink Dream Ephemera pack.

After inking the background using Oxide Inks, I randomly stamped a very old Flora background stamp.  It's so old, I don't even remember the company that made it, but to this day, is still one of my favorite background stamps. I also did some random stenciling using Vicky's Book Stencil

I tucked a vintage post card, from Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Ephemera Pack, behind the teacups and added my verse of the day, "Be joyful always".  I added white gel pen details to the die cuts and black lines around the sentiment to make it stand out.

I can easily get lost in the creation of art journaling.  I hope you enjoyed today's creation as much as I enjoyed the process of making it.

Vicky's entire line of products are so filled with vintage beauty!  I love everything about her style.

I've linked up many of her products below.  A Cherry On Top Crafts, carries her entire line and she just had a new release, so I hope you'll check them out.

Something New ~ Mixed Media Monday

Hello friends.  Do you ever feel like you want to break from the norm of card making and freely create?  When I feel that way, I get inky and typically make some kind of altered art or mixed media project.  I've never shared those types of projects on my blog before, but then I thought, "why not?"

"Art" is a process that all creators develop, grow and learn through.  I'm the first to confess that I'm not very good at trying new techniques, but I do enjoy the freedom of the creative process of using lots of different mediums from time to time.

I'm using today as a start of something new on my blog.  Welcome to "MIXED MEDIA MONDAY"!

Life is full of mountains and valleys.  Every day, it's up to us to choose how we respond to all the events that happen in life.  I can easily get distracted by the negatives, allowing fear and worry to set in.  Thankfully, I'm beginning to recognize more quickly, when I'm in that negative pattern, and I turn to the God who holds all things together.  So, my word for today is "hope".

On this page of my art journal, I started by laying down watercolors, blending them together by spraying the page with water and turning the book.  Once I was happy with the colors, I set the journal aside to dry.  I stenciled text and images using Stamperia's Book Stencil and started layering papers from my scrap box.  I stamped more text onto the largest piece of paper and ripped and distressed the edges.

The die cuts are from an ephemera pack from Stamperia, that have been sitting around for far too long, waiting to be used. I added some while gel pen accents to the leaves, letters and various areas on the page.

I hope that you enjoyed this new series.  I won't be posting a project every Monday.  My goal is to share something new a couple times each month.

I've linked some products that I used below.  The art journal that I used has stone pages, so it doesn't matter what type of medium you use in your creative journey, the pages won't warp or curl.

Merry Little Snowman

I'm joining in on my dear friends, Darlene & Diane's Peace On Earth Christmas challenge.

I Picked up a couple of packs of Christmas die cuts from Recollections last year in the clearance section at Michael's after the holidays were over.

I discovered that the Vintage Christmas papers from Stamperia that I've been hoarding holding on to for too many years to count, matched the colors in the die cuts perfectly.
I spent a rainy afternoon making card after card, using these cute, pre-printed die cuts!  The snowflake border Christmas card bases are a clearance purchase last year from Michael's as well.  The deer on this is from Papertrey Ink.

Win! Win!  I'm cleaning out my closet of shame, and using up my stash.

I'll keep this post short, by sharing only a few cards.  More to come in the future if you're interested.

Darlene and Diane seriously pick the cutest pictures for their inspiration boards.

You can join in on the fun HERE!

Cathe Holden Flea Market Finds ~ Spellbinders

Good morning, friends~ Spellbinders is bringing a new line of Cathe Holden products to you, called Flea Market Finds.  I'm just giddy over this entire collection!
Fair warning, this is a picture heavy post, so I hope you'll stick with me to the end.

Card #1 ~ This entire collection is vintage inspired, shabby chic, retro, mixed media, crafting goodness!

Card #2 ~ The colors and images are clear and crisp, and the quality is top notch!  I was thrilled to be one of the first designers to work with Cathe's new paper products.

Card #3 ~ Would you believe this stitched design is actually printed paper?  Look at the detail!

Card #4 ~ I used hinges from the ephemera pack and scored them so the shutter will open to reveal another sweet vintage surprise.

There are so many beautiful papers in the Florals Palette Sampler.  This is a 6x9" paper pad.

The die cuts from Happy Thoughts & Meadow Lark Miscellany die cuts packs are filled with beautiful vintage ephemera pieces.

For this card, I've used the Layered Vintage Floral Stencils to create the background, adding a couple of stamped images from the Handle With Care Clear Stamp Set.  The bird die is from Happy Thought Miscellany Die Cuts.

My final project is a little journal I made using brown paper bag card stock and some printer stationery for the pages, I had in my stash.  I embellished the front of the journal using paper from the Floral Palette Sampler and die cuts from both Happy Thoughts & Meadow Lark Miscellany die cut packs.

on the inside cover, I added a pocket and tucked in more of the vintage ephemera die cuts.  I stamped "Provisions" using a stamp from Miscellany Words Clear Stamp Set.  This set is filled with iconic words using beautiful vintage fonts.

I had a pack of old pewter book clips that have been sitting around for a while, so I decorated one up using more of the printed paper and die cuts.

If you made it this far, I thank you for hanging with me.  I appreciate all of you, and your kindness and love.

Right now, Spellbinders is having a huge sale to celebrate their 20th anniversary.  Pop on over to their website to see all the new things and take advantage of this fabulous sale.  There are so many pretty things!  Their new birthday release is jaw dropping!
