A Prickly Tale ~ Double D Challenge

Hello there!  Welcome back to another episode of Double D Challenge!
Diane has chosen a festive challenge for you with the theme of "Christmas Ornaments".

I took this challenge quite literally when I discovered that I had made these Christmas ornaments last year from an old children's book that was falling apart and had never posted them.

The book, "A Prickly Tale" was cast away and due for the trash, but I swooped in and saved it, and gave new life for a precious little babes first Christmas.

I used the book covers to create the box to hold the ornaments.

It's super cute how you can see the images from the inside cover inside the box.

I cut the images from the pages and glued them onto wooden ornaments that I picked up from the Dollar Tree, using Mod-Podge. I also cut the story line into word strips and attached them to the ornaments.  The words on each ornament tell their own story.

Once the ornaments were dry, I added fuzzy gold trim that also came from the Dollar Tree, using hot glue to attach it around the outside edge.

I covered both sides of the ornaments the same, using the darling graphics so that no matter which side shows, there's something fun to look at for sweet baby Isaiah.

I made a greeting card for gifting...

And packaged it all up nicely in a pretty cello bag.

I hope you'll find time to visit Double D Challenge and join in on the fun!

Absolutely adorable and what a save from that cute book going into the trash! I love handmade ornaments myself and have made many over the years, I am sure these will be treasured forever, a real keepsake. I didn't get time to comment before it was removed, but enjoy that sweeet two year old of yours, so hard to believe two already!!

OMG you are so creative! This is amazing ... awesome job! Your homemade ornaments will be treasured for years to come. My tree is filled with ornaments given to hubby & I over the years and each year I enjoy the memory of receiving it and the people (many gone from this earth now) who were so kind & thoughtful to share the holidays in a special way. WELL DONE!!

This is the sweetest, Birgit! What a great, creative save of a well loved book. The ornaments are adorable and make a memorable gift for that special little one. I love how you cut out the words and added them along with the photo. Such a cute little porcupine! Have a wonderful visit!

When I saw your ornament, I could not get to your blog fast enough to see what this was all about. I had not read or heard of the book. You are so creative, and I can see the love that was put into making them for the grandchildren. They will have these and the stories behind them for many years. I need a tissue.
