12 Kits of Occasion ~ January

Hello everyone! I'm so happy to say goodbye to the month of January.  We had so much snow and cold weather, I can only hope that February will be better.  Even if it isn't, we're still one month closer to spring!  This month's kit was put together by Jeanne Jachna and boy does she know how to make a great kit!  Everything in it was new to me and I just love the Asian flair of all the things she used.  Thanks so much Jeanne for an amazing kit!

We are also welcoming another talented new member to our team this month, Kara Pogreba from Bright Hope Creations.  I was blessed to meet Kara in Kansas last year.  She is kind and caring and is an amazing person.  She is stellar in her Copic coloring skills as well as her design skills and I'm super excited that she's joined us.  Welcome Kara!!

Now let's get on to the cards because I know that's why you're here.

This Chinese food take out box, chop sticks and fortune cookie are the cutest ever!  We have friends that we get together with and will quite often order Chinese take out with them, so this is the perfect card to send to them to let them know how special they are to us.

This cherry blossom paper reminded me of a very old stamp set I have from PTI called Out On A Limb so I stamped some flowers and berries to look like cherry blossoms.

These little guys from MFT just crack me up.  They're so cute!!  They take me back to when Christopher was a child taking karate.  He enjoyed the class but didn't like to yell his "KIY-Ya's". heehee!

I hope you'll hop on over to visit the 12 Kits of Occasion blog to see how my team mates were inspired to use Jeanne's great kit and don't forget to give Kara a warm welcome while you're there.  Jeanne also has a few talented guest designers this month so you won't want to miss a single post!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Birgit! Beautiful cards! I think the koi is my favorite! I love the inked up background, gold frame and the clever way you cut the fish from the paper. Why didn't I think of that? The geisha girls are so sweet and feminine on the floral paper and the take out card is going to make your friends smile!

Oh my! Your cards are wonderful! What a great card using the fortune cookie. And how wonderful that you'll use the card to thank your friends. I think you are so smart to remember that stamp set. I own it, too and didn't even think of that. Clever! Your koi card is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful movement. Wow! Ninjas are so fun. And your geisha girls are so sweet. Great use of the paper and wonderful coloring! :)

Birgit your card are all amazing! I love them all but my favourites would be the post card background which is so perfect for the take out die cuts and the fussy cut koi paired with the moon is brillaint!Love love love what you did with Jeanne's kit! Stay warm and I hope the weather improves for you. I thought on January 1st that we were escaping a tough winter, no true. With frigid temperatures and yesterday it snow all day, there is 3' of snow on our roof, every tree is coated with snow and when I left Sam out this morning to pee he disappeared in the snow--lol!

What wonderful cards, Birgit! I saved that beautiful koi paper, not knowing how I wanted to use it, but seeing your card was just what I needed to be inspired! So cool to have a Chinese take out themed card to give to your friends. Your cherry blossom branch is delightful, and those ninjas and girls are colored to perfection! I agree, good-bye January, hello one month closer to spring!

Birgit, these are all so wonderful! Love the paper you used for the Chinese take-out images. How wonderful that you'll be able to send that one to friends. You're probably right about the cherry blossoms, common in Japan. I just thought about the plum blossoms because I was seeing everything in relation to China! All the Asian images just merge together for me as I have limited experience with both. Your koi design is so amazing! I didn't know for sure what to do with that paper and your idea of fussy cutting them is great. Your Ninjas are amazing too as are the geishas with the gorgeous floral paper. That's such a happy card! Try to stay warm as you snuggle inside. I know I'm strange but I always enjoy the cold. Just wish we have a little more snow!

Hi Birgit, these are AMAZING! I find it hard to pick a favorite. I love the vintage look of the first card. I actually did a similar look, though not asian inspired, on an envelope I sent out and added a wax seal and everything. It was fun. The Cherry Blossom card, I can't believe you had a stamp so similar! The Koi card, wow, that added water effect is brilliance! The coloring on the Ninja's is superb! The matcha girls paired with the bright floral paper is perfection! I will have to say I love the vintage look you gave the first card the best, SPECTACULARLY done! Thanks for letting me join the gang! I had a great time!
