Something New ~ Mixed Media Monday

Hello friends.  Do you ever feel like you want to break from the norm of card making and freely create?  When I feel that way, I get inky and typically make some kind of altered art or mixed media project.  I've never shared those types of projects on my blog before, but then I thought, "why not?"

"Art" is a process that all creators develop, grow and learn through.  I'm the first to confess that I'm not very good at trying new techniques, but I do enjoy the freedom of the creative process of using lots of different mediums from time to time.

I'm using today as a start of something new on my blog.  Welcome to "MIXED MEDIA MONDAY"!

Life is full of mountains and valleys.  Every day, it's up to us to choose how we respond to all the events that happen in life.  I can easily get distracted by the negatives, allowing fear and worry to set in.  Thankfully, I'm beginning to recognize more quickly, when I'm in that negative pattern, and I turn to the God who holds all things together.  So, my word for today is "hope".

On this page of my art journal, I started by laying down watercolors, blending them together by spraying the page with water and turning the book.  Once I was happy with the colors, I set the journal aside to dry.  I stenciled text and images using Stamperia's Book Stencil and started layering papers from my scrap box.  I stamped more text onto the largest piece of paper and ripped and distressed the edges.

The die cuts are from an ephemera pack from Stamperia, that have been sitting around for far too long, waiting to be used. I added some while gel pen accents to the leaves, letters and various areas on the page.

I hope that you enjoyed this new series.  I won't be posting a project every Monday.  My goal is to share something new a couple times each month.

I've linked some products that I used below.  The art journal that I used has stone pages, so it doesn't matter what type of medium you use in your creative journey, the pages won't warp or curl.

Merry Little Snowman

I'm joining in on my dear friends, Darlene & Diane's Peace On Earth Christmas challenge.

I Picked up a couple of packs of Christmas die cuts from Recollections last year in the clearance section at Michael's after the holidays were over.

I discovered that the Vintage Christmas papers from Stamperia that I've been hoarding holding on to for too many years to count, matched the colors in the die cuts perfectly.
I spent a rainy afternoon making card after card, using these cute, pre-printed die cuts!  The snowflake border Christmas card bases are a clearance purchase last year from Michael's as well.  The deer on this is from Papertrey Ink.

Win! Win!  I'm cleaning out my closet of shame, and using up my stash.

I'll keep this post short, by sharing only a few cards.  More to come in the future if you're interested.

Darlene and Diane seriously pick the cutest pictures for their inspiration boards.

Delightful Dahlia's

Helloooo my friends~ I'm popping in today with a quick card to share in the Color Throwdown challenge.

I'm hoping this card counts for the challenge, as the colors are teal, green and white.

but if you look closely in the photo, you'll see splashes of mustard yellow.  So, I took some liberties here and added yellow to the centers of my Dahlia flowers from Papertrey Ink.

I added a bit of color to the petals using Copic markers and popped the layers of the dahlia's using foam dots.  I also added glitter to the flowers to make them sparkle.

The sentiment is from a pack of Foiled Sentiments from Pinkfresh Studio.
I'm pretty pleased with how cheerful this card turned out.

I've linked the products that I used on today's card, below:

Wagon Full of Fun ~ Double D Challenges

Good morning, friends~ There's a new challenge starting up over at Double D Challenges and the theme is "Wheels".

I created this cheerful, summer card using Spellbinder's Wagon Full of Fall die set.  This set was released last fall, but its timeless design can be used for any time of the year.

I cut the flowers from the die set out of white cardstock and colored them using Copic markers, filling the wagon to overflow.  I mounted the wagon onto a circle cut using Spellbinders Fluted Classics Circles Etched Die, with a bit of sponged, Tumbled Glass DOX ink in the center.

The printed papers are from Spellbinders "Sincerely Yours" Card Kit of the Month, which, at the time of writing this, is currently marked down on clearance.  The sentiment is a pre-printed sentiment from Pink Fresh Studio Foiled Sentiments.

Cosmos ~ DRU Challenge

Hello friends ~ There's a new challenge starting up over at Dies R Us and the theme is "Summer"  What's more beautiful than the flowers that bloom in summer.

I have a card and matching gift tag for your viewing pleasure today!

I started by cutting the pretty Impression Obsession Cosmos flowers out of white cardstock and sponged on some color using Distress Oxide Ink.

I layered the cosmo flowers together and added a touch of Silk Microfine Glitter, randomly to the edges of the flower petals.  I colored the smaller flowers from the Cosmos die set in the same manner, and once they were attached to the card, I added Nuvo Crystal Drops to the flower centers.

The birthday sentiments dies are from Spellbinders.

The tag was made using Impression Obsession Plaid Tag die set.  I like having the option of adding the plaid layer to the tag.

Here's a list of products I used, that can be found at Dies R Us:

Santa Lane Floral Die Cut Shapes ~ Spellbinders

Good morning, friends!  It's mid-August and I can already feel a crispness in the air and a change in temperature.  Fall is around the corner and winter, not far behind.  As much as I am a "summer-girl", I do love autumn as well.  Winter however..... not so much.  One thing I do love about winter is seeing all the beautiful, new winter and Christmas products that are released each season.  The Spellbinders store is loaded with lots of new collections, including the Santa Lane Limited Edition Cardmaking Christmas KitThis HUGE kit includes over 300 Pieces and will create over 25 Holiday cards with TONS of leftover embellishments and materials to spare.

For my first card, I started by stenciling the grid pattern in the background, using Antique Linen and Abandoned Coral DOX inks.  I then splattered some gold flecks over the background and set it aside to dry.  The beautiful poinsettias are part of the Santa Lane Floral Die Cut Shapes.  They look so real, and I love the watercolor style.

I layered the poinsettias over foliage from Glitter Die Cut Foliage, from Celebrate the Season collection, and added a sentiment is from the Santa Lane Sticker Pack.

I added some gold stickles to the centers of each flower and finished the card of with gold sequins.

For my second card, I used the Starburst Glimmer Hot Foil Plate to create the background, using Matte Silver Hot Foil Roll

I added a hand trimmed banner using printed paper and added this beautiful winter bouquet die from the Santa Lane Floral Die Cut Shapes.  I added some stickles to the edge of some of the petals to add dimension and interest.

The sentiment is from Christmas Puffy Sentiment Stickers, while the red sequins finished the card.

That's it for my offerings for you today.  I'm so glad you stopped in for a visit.  You can find all the newly released collections HERE and take a peek and what's COMING SOON.  As a bonus, Spellbinders is giving $20 off your next $100 purchase.

Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace August KOTM

Happy Monday crafty friends!  Today, I'll be introducing Becca Feeken's newest Amazing Paper Grace Kit of the Month from Spellbinders ~ Peekaboo Trellis Panels
There are 13 dies included in this set.  There are two trellis panels to choose from and three different flowers as well as leaves.  I used the vining leaves panel for my A2 size card.

I cut one panel out of gold cardstock and one out of white for the card front, and glued them slightly off center so the gold added more of a shadow.  I layered that over a panel of pink, woodgrain printed paper.  The flowers, when layered are so pretty, and you can use both the positive and negative pieces to double the number of flowers!  I added a sentiment using Layered Mix & Match Sentiments.

Lighthouse ~ Double D Challenges

Hello friends, it's the first Wednesday of the month so that means there's a new challenge starting up over at Double D Challenges.  This theme is "Lighthouse".

I pulled out Spellbinders Build A Summer Birdhouse.

I cut everything except for the post, out of white cardstock and did some hombre ink blending.  The stone wall was a left-over scrap I found in my scrap box and the sentiment is from Penny Black, Grateful Heart.

I like the CAS design.  It makes me dream about being by the ocean.

Butterfly Sparkle ~ Spellbinders August Card Kit of the Month

It's the beginning of the month so that means Spellbinders has all new club kits in the store for you to enjoy!  This month's Card Kit is called Butterfly Sparkle and it is sure to make you smile.

It is filled with butterflies, dreamy images and inspiring sentiments.

This card kit includes a 6x6 paper pad, clear stamps, a die set, tons of embellishments, and more!

There is a total of 12 dies included in this month's kit.  I think these butterflies will be used on many future projects.

Spellbinders kits always have a touch of elegance, using gold or silver accents.

Not only do these kits have all these decorative elements, but they also include 10 card bases with envelopes, several sheets of color coordinating cardstock, double sided tape, double sided foam dimensional squares and sequins.

The vintage images in this kit hit all the right buttons for me.
